Our guests visit us for a number of reasons, some just to relax & unwind, others engage in more active pursuits - there is so much to do and see.. Walking the Wye Valley, Offas Dyke Path... enjoying the stunning Countryside and the many interesting and historic places in the area - the list is endless - whatever the reason this is a sample of what our guests say about their stay with us...

Best Bed and Breakfast we have ever stayed at.

Stoulgrove Country House is in a league of it's own. We stayed in the Monnow Suite and it was luxurious. The attention to detail in every area of the house is amazing and everything is of such high standard. Sue and Richard are such lovely hosts and made our few days away so special we did not want to leave! The breakfast is wonderful and tea and cake on arrival sitting on the patio was lovely. We cannot rate this place highly enough and the cinema room blew us away. It was a pleasure to meet Sue and Richard and they are truly two of the most friendliest and accommodating people we have met.  25th May 2019

"Words do not express the hospitality and graciousness of Sue and Richard who opened up their beautiful home to us over the Christmas period. When most other places were unable to accommodate us for our trip from Australia to visit family in the area, Sue and Richard more than welcomed us. We felt extremely lucky to be able to spend our Christmas here. The attention to detail at Stoulgrove is astounding. Their home was decorated so beautifully for the holidays and we were in awe of the beautiful and elegant decor. It made for a very special visit for us. We were welcomed with warm, homemade mince pies. My husband and I stayed in the tastefully decorated Monnow Suite which offers a lovely space to relax, with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Our daughters (19 and 21) shared the Wye room and especially enjoyed the luxurious bath tub and 'extras'. The games room was a hit with the family, as was the movie room. Stoulgrove offers the luxury of a high class hotel but with the comfort of home, all in a stunning setting. Breakfast was delicious and being gluten free and having a daughter with a peanut allergy was no problem. We were all catered for so well....fresh fruits and juices, homemade compotes and yoghurt, warm oatmeal, cereals, full English breakfast from locally sourced products, fresh brewed coffee and tea....the choice was ours! It was lovely to enjoy our breakfast in the stunning dining room with views of the surrounding countryside. As we were visiting family in the area this made for such a beautiful retreat for a winter getaway. Christmas morning we woke to Champagne and truffles outside our door and 'stockings' for our daughters with some lovely treats inside. Such a kind and thoughtful gesture given we were away from 'our' home. Sue and Richard are natural hosts and really made our stay special and unique. We wanted for nothing during our stay (well, maybe snow...but that was a long shot :). Definitely our first choice for future visits to the area and thoroughly recommend....a true retreat!

This property is situated in a beautiful area and has been refurbished to a super-high spec. Every part of the house and experience has been carefully considered to make the stay as comfortable and easy as possible. We stayed in the Monnow suite and enjoyed an exceptionally comfortable bed, en suite, and separate living room with tv etc. Sue and Richard were the most hospitable hosts we've ever known. The welcome and offer of tea and refreshments was lovely, and the breakfast, at a time decided by ourselves, was incredible - every course of it! They could not have done more to make us feel at ease and enjoy our stay. Everything was comfortable, luxurious, and 'just right'. And then we discovered the home cinema downstairs as well - amazing!

The surrounding area is beautiful and great for country walks and pubs. We visited Tintern Abbey just a short drive away, and walked through the Wye Valley before a good pub lunch.

We will definitely be back and I cannot recommend this place highly enough.  Oliver - January 2019

We stayed with Sue and Richard unfortunately only one night. the place is beautiful, the hosts are great, the bed and pillows super comfy, spacious bathroom, really clean and the best breakfast we had in a long time and top of all B&B's and some hotels we have stayed over the years.

Sue is a fantastic host in this stunningly luxurious guest house. Every detail is immaculately taken care of with comfortable and very spacious rooms. We visited in winter but the huge walled garden had many beautiful plants and stunning trees. The location is perfect for walking in the Wye Valley or Forest of Dean.  Highly recommended.

Stay like you are one of the family....

Such a beautiful home! Sue and Richard are the perfect hosts...I could not have felt more welcome. I stayed in the Monnow suite..it had an elegant bathroom and an extremely comfortable bed. I do not think I have slept that well in a veeerry long time. Only to awaken to a king's breakfast. Lots of nice, little touches too (thanks for the cookies Sue :) The incredible and peaceful garden was just the icing on the cake. Thanks again to the both of you!

Fantastic, Luxury B&B

All we can do is reconfirm all the lovely comments made so far. Stoulgrove Country House is a superb, original, luxury bed and breakfast with a Premier Inn price tag. The rooms have been beautifully decorated with all the comforts you can imagine, including bath robes and slippers. We were also lucky enough to be able to use the brilliant cinema room in the old water tank. What a wonderful space and a great story on how the hosts came across the well! If you like to start the day with a great breakfast, you are truly spoiled at Stoulgrove. Lovely fresh ingredients with chopped fruit, yoghurt, toast, juices, croissants and a cooked breakfast of your choice. Finally, Sue and Richard are wonderful hosts. They are truly passionate about the property and they have done a wonderful job on the renovation. Nothing is too much trouble for them. We will be back.

Exceptional 'First class' B & B

The house is beautiful in a lovely setting with gorgeous extensive gardens. The hosts are excellent, friendly and welcoming. The rooms is spotless, lovely and comfortable. The bathroom is one of the nicest you will ever come across. The breakfast was just fantastic with local produce, and an amazing selection.

Amazing

The house is finished to a standard that would put many high class hotels to shame, and the hosts are friendly and very accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. The garden is lovely and we'll maintained. Superb breakfast as well! Highly recommended.

Beautiful owners, beautiful accommodation

The only thing more beautiful than the house itself are the owners Sue and Richard.

Sue and Richard are wonderful. Within minutes of arrival you feel more like family than guests. We stayed at Stoulgrove ahead of a 100km charity walk which involved a 8am start. Richard and Sue were up at 6am to prepare the most delicious breakfast (with the greatest selection you've ever seen), they then packed us off with fresh croissants and took us to the start line.

The accommodation itself is stunning. Beautifully styled, luxurious, spotless, welcoming, the list goes on. The bed was so comfy and smelt so wonderful that I didn't want to get up, but knowing that I had the most beautiful bathroom (with the largest monsoon shower head ever seen) and an endless breakfast awaiting me made it easier.

Put simply, you must stay here.

First Class !

Sue and Richard have created a wonderful home and are very warm, generous and attentive hosts. The standard of furnishings is immaculate and top of the range. Sue produces the most delicious breakfasts and welcoming tea and freshly made cake on arrival. Both of them went the extra mile to look after us. Have no hesitation in wholeheartedly recommending this super special B & B

Truly magical

We visited Stoulgrove and found it to be a truly wonderful place. Richard and Susan are delightful and pampered our every need. Nothing is too much trouble and they have thought of everything to ensure you have a fabulous time. The house is located in beautiful gardens which you are free to wander round or just sit and soak up the atmosphere

We recently stayed at the Stoulgrove for two nights. It is a beautiful house in modern country style. It has been outfitted with great attention to detail. For example, there are fresh flowers everywhere around the house. Sue is taking care of the guests in a way that some five-star hotels can learn from. The rooms are generous and the breakfast is tasty with high quality produce. If we come back to the area, there is no doubt about us returning to that beautiful place!

We had a lovely three night stay at Stoulgrove House, a stunning property, and our hosts were perfect - friendly and interested in our activities, happy to offer advice about the local area.
Our room was beautifully decorated, so quiet and airy during th
e hot weather, with every comfort considered. The bathroom is beyond luxury!
Breakfast was multi-choice, delicious and plentiful. The rural view from the terrace is tranquil and sets you up for the day. It is hard to believe the access to many interesting places is so easy.
This was the best B & B we have ever experienced and we left feeling we had made some new friends in Richard and Sue. We have been happy to pass on their details to our friends and neighbours.

Sue and Richard are absolutely wonderful hosts giving tremendous attention to detail to make guests feel comfortable and at ease within their beautiful home.
They actively encourage guests to enjoy their gardens and facilities, nothing seems too much trouble. Breakfast was extremely satisfying and it was lovely to see local produce and suppliers being used wherever possible.
The house is ideally situated for exploring Chepstow and the welsh border region with many places of interest to visit locally. A perfect location for walkers. A big "Thank you" to you both,we will retur
n.

From the moment the gates open to Stoulgrove country House you have arrived in paradise. Stoulgrove country house is a beautiful house with stunning landscape gardens. We were greeted with a welcome drink by our wonderful hostS, Sue and Richard. The house is absolutely beautiful inside and out, every detail has been thought about.
We had afternoon tea, which was full of wonderful delights and very well presented.
For the afternoon we sat on the terrace overlooking the gardens in beautiful sunshine, I'm sure Sue arranged the sun too!
We stayed for one night and had the upstairs floor to ourselves. The rooms were very well presented, comfortable and clean.
Breakfast on the terrace the next morning was amazing, great selection of fruits, cereals and hot food choice.
Sue is a wonderful host that takes great pride in her home and her guests. Our stay was perfect, just what we needed - quality time together.
I work in the travel industry and stay in hotels all over Europe, for me Stoulgrove Country House ranks amongst the best I've stayed in.
I would recommend Stoulgrove Country House and will stay again.

I was lucky enough to be taken to Stoulgrove House for afternoon tea last month. Stunning house and gardens.  Sue is a fantastic host, the love for her home and what she offers shines out.  I enjoyed the experience so much that I booked afternoon tea for myself, my other half and friends for last Saturday. We had a drink on arrival and wandered around the beautiful gardens.
I had asked for the menu to be a surprise. Sue varies some of the choices for seasonal produce.
I would love to list what we had but I think that would spoil your experience, although I will post some pics.
So much food and choice and all homemade with more if we wanted at a very reasonable price.
We were lucky to view the rooms - will certainly be booking accommodation
What can I say except my friends were extremely impressed.

Wonderful b&b in every way. This is a beautiful house and garden in a lovely setting. Sue and Richard are great hosts and made us feel very welcome and comfortable. Sue has put a lot of love and care into everything. We enjoyed the most delicious breakfast on the terrace, with such a choice of treats. We were on our way to our holiday destination but really could have stayed put! I really can't recommend this lovely place highly enough. Magic!

Myself and my Mum recently had the greatest pleasure to stay in this wonderful B & B in Chepstow, at the end of a week travelling around Wales.
Richard and Sue gave us a very warm welcome and were amazing hosts.
Their beautiful home is immaculate and sumptuous, with every detail thought of and taken care of.
We were fortunate enough to stay on the sunniest of days which meant we could enjoy homemade cake and tea on arrival and a delicious home cooked breakfast the following morning on the patio, overlooking the amazing gardens and views.
That week,we stayed in three other 5* hotels prior to Stoulgrove and we can both honestly say that Stoulgrove was the highlight and somewhere we would love to return to.

Thank you so much Richard and Sue x

After a making a last minute decision to head to Wales a day early, we found this delightful b and b through their great review on the Telegraph. Sue and Richard offered us a warm welcome before showing us to our top floor suite looking over the Wye Valley countryside. Huge bathroom and private sitting room on the top floor were all finished to a very high standard. Great choice at breakfast including gluten free options for my Coeliac wife. Sue and Richard also gave us some great recommendations for a short walk in the surrounding countryside. We'd highly recommend to anyone thinking of staying in the area.

Really enjoyed our 4 night stay in this stylish country home with it's beautiful gardens. You can expect immaculate rooms with great attention to detail and the most delicious breakfast. We enjoyed our stay very much, it went beyond our expectations for a B&B and thank owners Sue and Richard for making us so welcome.

You will not be disappointed when you decide to stay there. The breakfast exceeded our expectations of traditional B&B bran flakes. We will most definitely be back, it really is five star and more.

Acres of beautiful gardens overlooking a tranquil pastoral setting. The residence has been renovated to stunning perfection. God is in the details here. Sue and Richard are superb hosts and our breakfast was a show stopper. I would recommend this place to the most discerning traveller.

Incredibly peaceful 2 night stay in the absolutely beautiful Stoulgrove House. Sympathetically renovated, with stunning views of the countryside from the equally gorgeous gardens. Sue & Richard were fantastic hosts throughout our stay. They seem to have thought of everything! Our stay actually felt like a week as it was so easy to unwind as soon as we came through the door. Beautiful home & lovely lovely hosts. Thank you both!

We stayed at Stoulgrove B&B from the 14th - 18th May and had a fantastic time. Sue and Richard were perfect hosts who were great company and and made sure we were looked after exceptionally well. Our room was lovely, with a lovely separate lounge and the gardens and views were great. A very special place and we hope to return soon. Highly recommended!

I do a lot of traveling and can’t recall being looked after so well. I can’t wait to return for a longer stay with my wife. Thank you very much.

Visiting Chepstow races for the two day meeting in March I decided to stay overnight at Stoulgrove as it was so close and looked lovely from the pictures.

The booking process was easy and I turned up to a warm welcome from the owners who quite frankly during my visit could not have done anymore to make my stay more relaxing and enjoyable !

I have been lucky enough to stay at some wonderful hotels in my time but the effort, attention to detail and thoughtfulness of the owners here is something to behold and the term B&B does not do it justice.

I will without doubt use Stoulgrove again and would like to take my wife at some stage in the future but am concerned that she will want a house so impressive......this house would not look out of place on Grand Designs !!!!

After being introduced to our charming hosts, we quickly became acquainted with our chic, opulent surroundings which included impressive views and outstanding gardens. The bedroom was fully equipped of all the essentials with a few little extras thrown in too.
Clean and stylish - one of the best night's sleep I’ve personally have ever had.
Amazing food - served with attention to detail which transformed our stay to way beyond the average.
Easy to explore the local surroundings from here.

No hesitation to recommend to friends and family alike. Already looking forward to my next visit.

Had a fantastic two night stay here !

Beautiful house with stunning grounds, great welcome from the hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was lovely. Plenty to do in the surrounding area and spent a very enjoyable few hours visiting the SS Great Britain in Bristol.
All in all a great couple of days away, looking forward to returning for another visit next year!

"Superb new bed and breakfast housed in an impressive remodelled Georgian property in six acres of grounds. Stoulgrove Country House has three classy, large and luxurious rooms, one with its own separate lounge, and great 'extras'.
