Our guests visit us for a number of reasons, some just to relax & unwind, others engage in more active pursuits - there is so much to do and see.. Walking the Wye Valley, Offas Dyke Path... enjoying the stunning Countryside and the many interesting and historic places in the area - the list is endless - whatever the reason this is a sample of what our guests say about their stay with us...
Why can we say other than wow!
Sue was a simply amazing host who made us feel so welcome from the moment we turned up.
The food was incredible, Sue really goes the extra mile. We had an afternoon tea fit for kings.
The games room and cinema really made the stay extra special.
One of the best B&Bs we have ever stayed in.
We run our own 5* B&B in Norfolk that we are immensely proud of and have been awarded a coveted 'Certificate of Excellence' by TripAdvisor for the past 3 years running. However, we are very pleased that we recently took a few days away from our work enabling us to stay with our hosts' at Stoulgrove Country House - Sue and Richard.
Firstly, Stoulgrove Country House is visually stunning in appearance and being ideally located in a tranquil countryside setting but not too far from those essential amenities. The house itself has been virtually rebuilt but has managed to retain a Georgian feel and proportions.
We stayed in the Monnow suite on the third floor which was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated, our bedroom had a very comfy King-size bed with crisp quality linen and accompanying soft furnishings with ample storage, TV and tea and coffee making facilities. The En-suite bathroom has a huge walk-in rain shower with an ultra-modern suite and simply oozes 'quality - along a short but private corridor we had our own lounge with a comfy sofa and a large TV/DVD and a bookcase with Games/DVD's/Books etc.
Breakfasts was more like a feast fit for a King - we started off with yoghurt shots followed by fresh fruits and then freshly baked croissants, followed by a full English cooked to your liking with as much Tea/Coffee and toast as you liked and Sue even produced some freshly baked pastries in the event you might still be hungry! All beautifully cooked and presented in the exquisite dining room.
Seriously folks, this is by far the best house that either of us have ever stayed in and it was an absolute privilege and an honour for us to have been fortunate enough to have stayed in such superb surroundings with such wonderful hosts.
We are extremely envious - but please rest assured, we will most definitely be returning and can highly recommend to all who are fortunate enough to find you.
Many thanks Carol & Jeff xx
Sue and Richard Antrum were the consummate, gracious hosts . We were greeted with tea and cookies and shown around their remodeled Georgian and beautiful gardens. We enjoyed a very comfortable, en suite bedroom on our own separate floor - the finest details to the room decorations and modern bathroom made our stay that much more special. Breakfast was delicious . We enjoyed our many lovely conversations with Sue and Richard. Highly recommend a detour here!
Visiting from the United States, my wife and I enjoyed 3-nights at the best bed and breakfast imaginable - "bed and breakfast" is an insufficient term to describe the luxurious home, accommodations, room, hearty breakfasts, physical beauty, attention to detail, etc. But even more impressive are the hosts. Sue is passionate about looking after her guests, helping with every request. She and her husband Richard were so wonderful to us who arrived as tired travelers. They delivered the highest quality experience, with no detail overlooked. Unexpected treats include early morning hikes in the adjacent paths and fields. Stoulgrove and Sue's hospitality are extremely reasonably priced for the value received (she should charge more!).
Would we return? We don't intend to return to Stoulgrove - we WILL return to Stoulgrove!
We found Stoulgrove by chance online based on the excellent reviews, but our stay exceeded expectations beyond measure! It is a beautiful, elegant Georgian house recently modernised and extremely comfortable in all respects. The hosts Susan and Richard could not have been more welcoming and we were made to feel like good friends rather than guests. The rooms are spotlessly clean and very comfortable and the food was fantastic, from tea and cakes on arrival to the superb breakfast. We simply cannot fault any aspect of our stay and will definitely return.
I visited Chepstow with my husband to take part in a cycling event and chose Stoulgrove House as it looked very comfortable but small and personal. It certainly did not disappoint. Sue and Richard are wonderful hosts and make you feel a welcome guest in their home. We had tea and cake on arrival in their lovely garden with views over the countryside. Our suite was on the top floor and had bedroom en suite bathroom and separate lounge so felt as if we were in our own flat. The house is beautifully decorated with lots of lovely touches everywhere you look. Thoughtful items like fresh milk and high quality toiletries also add to the experience. We needed an early light breakfast on the Saturday and Sue was happy to oblige but we were able to enjoy the full cooked breakfast on Sunday which was delicious. The whole atmosphere was calm and welcoming and came away fully refreshed. Will definitely return.
Always a bit worried about returning to a fabulous place in case it's not as good this time. Needn't have worried - it was every bit as good. Sue and Richard made us feel like honoured and welcome friends rather than customers. The house and gardens are beautiful, elegant, comfortable and welcoming and the breakfasts to die for. We had a "date night" in their cinema room with a bottle of wine and a walk direct from their house straight on to Offa's Dyke into Tintern and Chepstow. Thank you Sue and Richard and hope to see you again soon.
This has to be the best B&B I've ever stayed at. So luxurious. Everything had been thought of. Beautiful house, rooms, gardens and Sue looks after you so well. Wonderful breakfast too. If you're looking for a real treat then this is a great place to come.
As worldwide and critical travellers we were so pleased to have stayed in this fantastic place.Sue and Richard are perfect hosts......the house and gardens are beautiful and the breakfast was just absolutely right.......We were here for a family wedding and a long weekend.....made perfect by our stay here.....the best ever,anywhere........we cannot praise it too highly.
This is not the kind of place you are lucky enough to run into very often in this day and age.
Set in an unbelievably beautiful pastoral setting close to Chepstow, yet utterly tranquil, all you will hear when you awake is the chattering of birds.
Sue and Richard, the owners, could not be more welcoming or flexible-nothing is too much for them when it comes to making your stay a special one.
The breakfast would rival any around the globe in its quality and presentation, from freshly-made fruit salad,to porridge prepared on the Aga cooker,to the full breakfast, where the locally produced sausages are a unique delight!
The house interior, lovingly restored from its Georgian past and fitted to the highest of modern standards, with a sense of style and detail that took one's breath away. I don't think we have ever stayed in a B&B that comes anywhere close to this!
We stayed at Stoulgrove for 1 night and cannot recommend it highly enough. The property is absolutely stunning, with beautiful interiors and lovely detailing - a real testament to its owners Sue and Richard. As hosts they are absolutely lovely, they couldn't have done more to help and make us feel welcome and at home. Breakfast was delicious, a real treat, and with the added bonus of the cinema room and games room we were spoilt for choice on how to spend a lazy rainy afternoon. Our room was stunning with a beautiful bathroom and really comfy bed, fresh milk provided for tea and coffee and an honesty fridge for a few treats. We'd love to return, and if we could rate 6 stars we would do!
Stoulgrove ranks in the very highest tier of all of the places where we have stayed in Wales, England, and Scotland. The house is immaculate and lovely, the gardens are beautiful, and the hospitality of Sue and Richard is outstanding. Sue was extremely helpful both before and during our stay, and Richard even created a music playlist for us during breakfast!
We stayed in the Monnow Suite, which is large and very well appointed, with a very trendy and up-to-date ensuite bathroom. The bed is very comfortable. The location of the house is excellent, very close to Chepstow but with a country house feeling, and there are many attractions nearby.
Everything about Stoulgrove is of the highest quality, and I can recommend it without hesitation to anyone who will appreciate having the opportunity to stay in such a wonderful home.
Words don't usually fail me but this B + B is completly out of this world. The Georgisn property stands in its own grounds + the garden has been lovingly tended by Sue to perfection. The house is amazing we had the top floor with a separate lounge it was beautiful. Sue + Richared are such attentive hosts that you really don't want to leave. Also good recommedations for evening meals. We will definately be back in the future. Thankyou for making our 40th anniversary so special.
Stoulgrove Country House is in a league of it's one. We stayed in the Monnow Suite and it was luxurious. The attention to detail in every area of the house is amazing and everything is of such high standard. Sue and Richard are such lovely hosts and made our few days away so special we did not want to leave! The breakfast is wonderful and tea and cake on arrival sitting on the patio was lovely. We cannot rate this place highly enough and the cinema room blew us away. It was a pleasure to meet Sue and Richard and they are truly two of the most friendliest and accommodating people we have met.
My wife found this wonderful house on the internet totally by chance and thought she would treat us all for my birthday. What can I say..........it was exceptionally good, the moment we laid eyes on the house it looked immaculate and in such a beautiful location, the inside was even more amazing - this home definitely has the wow factor. Sue & Richard just complete the overall experience by making you feel like you're in a home rather than an establishment, nothing is too much trouble.
I would recommend this B&B (amazing breakfast by the way) to anyone who appreciates quality.
Stoulgrove is set in wonderful countryside, with beautiful gardens and kind hosts.
Rooms and facilities are spot on and there is a wide range of restaurants and things to do nearby.
I would recommend it to anyone, but particularly those who like Mr&Mrs Smith style boutique hotels.
