We are Sue & Richard Antrum - a Lancastrian & a Yorkshireman - an odd combination some may say! Having lived in various locations around the country we decided to settle in Chepstow with our three children over 20 years ago.
Stoulgrove House is situated in Woodcroft, just outside the border town of Chepstow in Gloucestershire . Built in 1792 it was part of a larger estate of about 15 acres. We first saw Stoulgrove House, its gardens and land in 2007 and managed to finally purchase it in 2009. We undertook a major re-development of both the gardens and house which took over 18 months. It soon became apparent that the house had to be virtually re-built, but we were determined to try and keep the ‘essence’ of Stoulgrove. Where possible all the bespoke features were handmade by local Forest of Dean craftsmen. The house has impressive eco credentials, heated by air source and all of the stone walling you see around the property was dug out of our fields.
With our children having all finally flown the nest, and with little more than bird song to wake us up; we now have the time (in between gardening & mowing lawns) to fully appreciate what a haven of peace & tranquility Stoulgrove is. We were delighted to be awarded both 5* & 'Gold Award' from Visit Wales in the first few months.
Adjacent to the Offa’s Dyke Path and the beautiful surrounding countryside of the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean. Stoulgrove Country House is just 5 minutes drive from the historic town of Chepstow, with it's 11th century Castle, Racecourse and nearby Tintern Abbey. It offers easy access to nearby Bristol, Cardiff, Bath, Cheltenham and the motorway network - M4 & M5
After a day enjoying the area, its many attractions or after a long drive, Stoulgrove is the place to relax in the garden, enjoy a game of pool, a luxurious soak in a lovely deep bathtub or just curl up & watch a film in the Home Cinema (by arrangement)
All bedrooms are light & airy and have been designed with your comfort in mind. Featuring double aspect windows, deep comfortable Beds, Luxurious Bathrooms, Fluffy Robes, Hairdryers, Ironing Facilities, Wi-Fi, TV/DVD Freeview, Complimentary Welcome Tray & Toiletries.
A small selection of snacks, chocolate & forgotten essentials are available to purchase. In the morning, come down to a hearty, leisurely Country House Breakfast in the dining room or, if weather permitting, on the patio listening to the birds and enjoying the view.
Should you decide to stay with us ... a warm welcome awaits you at Stoulgrove, along with a cup of tea, home made cake and an invitation to share our home & gardens during your stay.
